Child Development in Science : Big Idea: Life Cycle (Transformation)

The big idea on this curriculum blog is around transformation. How one thing transform into something new, and here I choose to plan the big idea of transformation around the life cycle of a salmon.

Not every child in the classroom will be interested in the transformation of a egg to a salmon, and this is where provocation comes into play. A provocation can be used to spark interest of children and provocation can also happen through play. Children learn best through their interest and they also learn very well through play. A mind map is posted below and other than exploring and investigating the life cycle of a salmon you can choose land animals or sea creatures with your class. The big idea is transformation but the science topic depends on the interest of your class.
