After viewing the video the children would start to make connection to their past experience and knowledge. They may say "I have seen that before" "I see that at the supermarket" I ate that before".
These are what the children may say which is connecting to their past experiences with new knowledge.
From here as educators we can response with wonder statements to provoke children's cognitive thinking. For example, "I wonder how..." "I wonder what..." "I wonder if..." Children are now using their verbal language in connection with the life cycle of salmon.
Music is a great way to encourage verbal language, this video also offers literacy along with language. The video has the lyrics as caption, therefore educators can pause the video at anytime to talk about the words in the lyrics and also talk about the different names of the salmon at different stages of the life cycle.
Children may ask "How does the salmon go home?" "Where does the salmon live?" "What does salmon eat?" These questions are all connected to language and literacy, and you can than expand on these questions to create a conversation.
As an educator you can visit this blog to answer all the questions the children may have and connecting it back to their past experiences.
