Language and Literacy using FDLK

Here is a great poster showing the different stages that a salmon goes through in their life cycle. From the Salmon Cycle Song, children are now able to make connection with the different stages in the life cycle of a salmon. This can be connected to language / literacy when the children are practicing verbally in writing the different stage of the salmon. On a piece of chart paper children can than brainstorm and investigate...

What I already know…

What I learned…

What I want to find out…

As the children use verbal language to make connection to new knowledge, as an educator you can support and encourage  JK/SK to come to the front and write the first letters of the salmon stages.

The goal for these activities and learning is being able to recognize the beginning letter of words and being able to use verbal language connecting to new and old knowledge.

This meets the learning expectation from FDLK

FDLK 1.5 Use language in various context to connect new experiences with what they already know. EX. Contribute ideas orally during shared or interactive writing; contribute to conversations at learning centers; respond to teacher prompts (FDLK p. 75)

FDLK 2.8 demonstrate knowledge of most letter of the alphabet in different context (FDLK p.85).
